Fishing for Rockfish and Ling Cod on the Pacific Ocean June 23. 2012

This is the dock in La Push on the Quileute Nation.
It is absolutely breath taking!
The rocks in the background jut up from the ocean floor and are everywhere.  They are an incredible sight to behold!
This is Captain Randy's boat that will take us out on the ocean and hopefully bring us a good day of fishing.
The weather was a little better than the day before.  We were just hoping it would stay that way!
This is Neal and Brian. Father-in-law/Son-in-law.  They were our fishing buddies from Iowa.  Brian is a Dare Officer and Neal is an accountant with I believe the Department of Agriculture.
Great guys and a lot of fun to fish with!
Pulling out of port.  Like I said, the scenery is breath taking.  While the guys sat inside the cabin talking, I sat on the deck taking pictures!

It's just incredible how the trees grow right out of the rock.

A little light signal.

Approaching Seal Rock!
This was an amazing site to see all these sea lions on this rock.  There were probably thousands of them.  Big ol' bulls with their harems of cows, and all kinds of pups!
Although they are a pain in the butt for the fisherman, it was still fun to see!
Thanks Captain Randy for taking the time so I could take pictures!

Couple of bulls sunning themselves and barking away!

Lounging on the warmth of the rocks.

I think this guy was complaining about something!

That is a big ol' boy on the right.  He kinda looks like Jabba from Star Wars!

Some of his ladies...

This pic shows just how big this bull is!  If you enlarge the picture, there is a pup lying on its mom's back.

Even closer!  Love how the rock is open to the other side.
In the words of our Captain, "Shall we turn this sightseeing trip into a fishing trip?" We were all in agreement!
Unfortunately we were all too busy catching fish for me to take pictures but as usual Mark
out-fished everybody.  I was very proud of him!

THERE SHE BLOWS!!!
On the way back to port we saw Humpback whales.  It was too cool!  I have never seen whales in the wild before.  I know Mark was wishing deep-down-inside that he could harpoon juuuuust one!
I wish I could have caught it breaching but at least I got its tail...
... and he or she is now gone....
I wish my pictures were better but I think I just got so excited! We also saw Puffin birds. They are too cool looking. I had no idea that they existed here in WA.

This guy was only about 10 feet away from me!!!

It was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced!!!

Going...going...

Gone!  Thanks for the memories!
Now for some this might be too graphic.  I think the colors are beautiful and this was just a small smattering of the fish we landed between the four of us.

The yellow and black ones are called china's. Not sure why.  The others are rockfish.
You can't see the ling cod that Mark and Brian caught but they're in there!
Back in port.  That was such a fun trip!!  I can't wait to go again!
Papa waiting patiently as Captain Larry cleans and fillets our catch...

Brian hands more fish to Larry while the nice lady from WDFW measures some of them for their records.  She was really nice.

Thanks Captain Larry for a wonderful day out on the ocean.  The weather was so pretty while we were out there and then we came back to rain!  Go figure!
But again, that's what Gortex is for!
