Fishing for Kings and Sockeye!! June 21, 2012

The week I got out of the hospital Mark got a wheelchair from my work and took me to the Sportsman's Show at the Puyallup fair grounds where he booked a fishing trip for us in the sleepy little town known to 'Twilight' fans everywhere as Forks, WA.
Here we are getting ready to leave home.  As usual my sweetie has to be doing something silly!
The fastest way for us to get to the Olympic Peninsula is by ferry.

It has nice lounges where you can sit and watch out the windows if you don't want to stay in your car.
They also have a galley if you're hungry.
Some of the views as we crossed the Puget Sound over to Kingston.

Mt. Rainier rising high!

Papa and Grammy having fun. This wasn't the easiest shot to take but I think it turned out pretty good!
The view from our car as we arrived in Kingston.
And we're off!!

Almost to Forks!  This is Lake Crescent it is huge!

And

very

pretty!
This is the Blue Herron Lodge in Forks where we spent the night before what we hoped would be a productive day of fishing down the Sol Duc river.
And this is Gus, our welcome committee.  He blongs to Shawn the onsite caretaker for the lodge.

He is a sweet boy!

Look at that face.
Our accommodations at the lodge.

Loved the fireplace!

Look!!  It's the infamous licorice sneek!

The view from our deck.

Some of the "wood"land creatures!

And "woody" mushrooms!
When we drove into town to get some supper this was one of the many "Twilight" themed businesses in this town.

It was late and most of the shops were closed so we didn't stop in. Plus the fact that Shawn would be waking us at 3:00 AM to meet Larry our guide at 4:00 to be on the Sol Duc at first light!
First light on the Sol Duc is beautiful!  Cold for me...but beautiful!

I was wishing I would have brought my long-johns not long after getting on the river!

First set of rapids we went over!  Yeehaa!!

 Spectacular scenery.

And then...

Strike!!!

Mark has the first fish and it's a King!!!

That's my fisherman!!

Mark, Larry, and the King!

This is a young Bald Eagle.  He still has his baby feathers.  He sat above us and just watched us until we were out of sight!

Around mid morning the sun was trying to poke through but then the rain came...and didn't leave!

Gentle water.

OK...I have NO idea how I took this video but hey...it will at least give you a little flavor of what it sounds like on the Sol Duc!
I do know that I was trying to get a picture of the little creek flowing into the river.

My sweetie with his 17 pound King Salmon!!
Not sure how everyone seemed to forget that I caught, well let me rephrase that, Larry hooked and I reeled in a 2 pound Sockeye.  Guess mine wasn't as impressive!! LOL
Or the guys just figured since I didn't ask I must not have wanted one!!! LOL
What a fun day of fishing!  The weather wasn't the best but could have been a whole lot worse.  Besides...that's why we have Gortex!!
Thanks for a fun day honey!
