Our First Thanksgiving

Mark and I celebrated our first Thanksgiving this year as husband and wife. It was also my first year making a Thanksgiving meal in over 10 years!! LOL
We were so pleased to be able to have Mark's mom join us for supper. Unfortunately the pictures that were taken were only of myself with mom and Mark with mom; she was afraid to take the pictures as she felt she might drop the camera. We didn't push her on it, so we decided to attempt the next best thing...do it ourselves! To be honest...I think the pic turned out kind of cute.

On Friday the 28TH, we went up to Rockport, WA to visit our friends John and Corina Koening. John is a hunting and fishing guide that Mark has been hunting and fishing with for years. His wife is a talented hunter and fisherman (yes, I referred to her as a fisherman...I am not politically correct so get used to it!) herself, a lady I admire. Plus they are both a lot of fun. Anyway, we went out fishing with John for salmon. I landed the first one, a chum, but as of this month you are not allowed to keep them because supposedly their numbers are down in the rivers this year. John hooked the next one and handed me the rod (he was our guide so he can't bring them in, we have to...still fun, but not like when you hook it and bring it in yourself)anyway...I brought in a beautiful Silver AKA coho salmon.  John hooked two more silver's and handed me the rod but one tangled himself up in my line and snapped the line...he was bigger than my first one! The second one I lost because I had too much slack in my line and I had my rod tip pointed down at him...oh well...lessons learned.  Mark caught a chum and it was beautiful, really bright...not the way they usually are this time of year, John said it had just came in from the ocean so that is why it was so bright...but again like the first we had to let him go.  Mark's next catch was a really young and small silver; John called it a "Milver" or mini-silver and Mark called it a "Jack" but either way you call it, back in the water he went. Next John hooked another silver and handed Mark the rod....poor Mark...he lost his too! So we could have had our limit that day, but for what ever reason...we didn't. But the most important thing was that we had a great time with a dear friend, even though it rained all day...thank heaven for Gortex! My ball cap had not been water proofed and unfortunately I got my hood up a little too late, so my hair got soaked...but there was a plus side to that as well. Today when I washed my hair, it was silky soft! I have now experienced what my grandmother told me about how they would collect rain water to wash their hair with when she was a young woman growing up in Oklahoma. She said it made their hair soft and shiny...I may have to ask Mark for a rain barrel for Christmas! lol
I hope y'all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you have even more blessings to be thankful for next Thanksgiving. I know we will!
